The McLaren P1 : The Benchmark

The Mind-Bendingly Fast McLaren P1

McLaren P1

In my opinion, the McLaren P1 is one of the greatest hypercars the world has ever seen.  Along with the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder, the McLaren is the most impressive.  Boasting some of the most mind-bending numbers, the P1 impressed Top Gear UK’s Jeremy Clarkson like no other car I’ve ever seen featured on the show.  As he floored the car, the expressions of bewilderment and amazement on his face will be remembered by all Top Gear viewers.  The P1 is the performance benchmark, and many reviewers and car journalists agree that it is the most impressive of the big three hypercar hybrids.

The P1 features an engine like nothing we’ve ever seen before.  Although it’s only a 3.8 L V8, the displacement is truly incredible with the twin turbo charges, giving a total of 727 BHP with just the engine alone.  Adding the in-house developed electric motor gives an estimated displacement of 176 BHP, giving car a total of 903 BHP.  It’s truly incredible to think that this P1 has a power to weight ratio of 647 BHP/ton.  This McLaren, everyone, has a better power-to-weight ratio than a Buggatti Veyron Super Sport.  The P1 will go from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds.
